City of Firsts

The history of the City is marked by so many milestones and so much innovation.  Where was the first bridge over the Thames? Who opened the first coffee house? How did the first cheque come to be issued? The list of “firsts” is never-ending and continues to grow.

Even the most seasoned traveller .will be surprised by what is uncovered on this walk, which regularly prompts comments such as “well I never knew that  …!”

We visit the first purpose-built office block and the first pub, famous institutions such as the Bank of England and the Lloyds Building, and also explore the secret squares and hidden courtyards where some of the most unexpected firsts took place.
